Clinical Consultation

Clinical consultations are such a vital part of our growth as therapists.

They can be an opportunity for professional development or a source of much-needed expertise when it comes to complex cases.  Whatever your reason for clinical consultation, helping other clinicians sharpen their skills and expand their knowledge is such a privilege for me.

Below are some areas where I’m able to offer clinical consultations.

Areas of Expertise

Mindful Self-Compassion

Mindful self-compassion is all about teaching clients kindness and understanding, particularly when it’s the most challenging. As therapists, we can use this approach to help folks struggling with self-criticism and low self-esteem by teaching them to be more compassionate and mindful of their emotions.

Perinatal Mental Health

Perinatal mental health covers everything from postpartum depression to body image to “the baby decision.” In clinical consultations about perinatal mental health, we’ll explore the emotional challenges of expectant or new parents and cultivate the skills to promote healthier outcomes for both the parents and their kiddos.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a powerful tool to help clients notice and shift their negative thought patterns and behaviors. You can add this to your toolkit to better support clients experiencing depression or anxiety.

Anti-Oppressive Approaches

An anti-oppressive approach to therapy recognizes power imbalance and systemic oppression. It brings factors like race, gender, and sexuality into the picture so you’re better equipped to work with your clients more compassionately and support their healing.

Health At Every Size (HAES) and Body Liberation

Health At Every Size (HAES) and Body Liberation is a philosophy that avoids judgment based on weight and instead focuses on body acceptance. When working with clients who struggle with body image or eating disorders, this approach can help them prioritize well-being over weight for a healthier relationship with their body.

In addition to 1:1 consultations, Allison hosts the West Coast Consultation group on the Therapist Network.
